Karl Hagenauer was born in 1898 and began his artistic education at the age of eleven, enrolling in the Vienna School of Applied Arts. There, he studied with prominent figures like Josef Hoffmann and Oskar Strnad, and even created designs for the celebrated Wiener Werkstätte art collective.
The story of "Hagenauer" in design begins with Carl Hagenauer, who founded the Werkstätte Hagenauer Wien (Hagenauer Workshop Vienna) in 1898.
It was Carl's eldest son, Karl Hagenauer, who achieved international fame during the Art Deco era.
Karl Hagenauer's designs were characterized by their elegant and stylized forms, often inspired by African art as well as the Vienna Secession movement. He was particularly known for his whimsical animal figures and human forms.
He participated in the 1925 Exposition in Paris, where he received a bronze and a silver medal.
