Cormier joseph descomps

Joseph-Jules-Emmanuel Cormier was born in France in 1869 and was a sculptor and goldsmith. He is known by the signatures Joé Descomps or Descomps-Cormier.


  1. He studied with Louis-Auguste Hiolin and Alexandre Falguière.


  1. He was a member of the French Artists' Society from 1883 and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1891 to 1937.


  1. He participated in the Chicago World's Fair in 1893.

  1. He designed objects in the Art Nouveau style, including jewelry and sculptures in bronze, stone, and ceramics.


  1. His sculptures include pieces such as "Danaïde" and "Artémis," which are held in Parisian museum collections, such as the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.


  1. His work was part of the art competition at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris.


  1. After World War I, he signed his works with the name "Cormier" or "Descomps-Cormier."


  1. In 1929, he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor for his contributions to French art.
