Flavio Poli was born in 1900 in Chioggia, Italy, and was a key figure in 20th-century Murano glass design.
He trained as a ceramicist at the Istituto d'Arte di Venezia. He later transitioned to the art of glassmaking.
In 1929, he began his career in glass design at IVAM in Murano.
In 1930, he became associated with Seguso Vetri d'Arte, where he worked until 1963.
Poli is particularly known for his mastery of the Sommerso technique, which involved layering different colors of glass and then encasing them in a thick layer of transparent glass.
He won several awards:
The Compasso d'Oro in 1954 for a blue-ruby glass vase he designed for Seguso.
Five Grand Prix awards at various Milan Triennials.
