He was one of the most influential figures in fashion journalism, editorial design, and decorative arts in 20th century France. He is widely remembered for his vital role as artistic director and editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, as well as for his collaborations in the design of bottles and packaging for high perfumery.
He was born in Paris (1892–1958) into a prominent family linked to publishing and illustration.
Design for Maison Vigny: Alongside his editorial work, he channeled his graphic sensitivity into the design of luxury objects. During the 1920s and 1930s, he developed an unmistakable visual language for the house Parfums Vigny.
Art Deco Aesthetics: He conceived for Vigny bottles with well-defined geometric lines, with beveled facets, structured shoulders, and sculpted caps resembling tiered architectures (like the iconic design for Heure Intime in 1933 and related lines from the maison).
Staging: He combined the geometric rigor of French molded glass with theatrical cases that understood the perfume bottle as a dressing table sculpture.
