The Barovier family is considered one of the oldest glassmaking dynasties in Murano. It is believed that they settled on the island around 1295, following a decree of the Republic of Venice that required the relocation of all glass furnaces to Murano.
In 1455, the Republic of Venice granted him exclusive rights for the production of a unique and complex glass that he developed and called "Vidrio Limpio" (Clear Glass), known today as Venetian Crystal.
This crystal was characterized by its transparency and brilliance, achieved through the use of manganese and other metallic agents to decolorize the molten glass.
Angelo Barovier is also credited with the development of the glass paste "Calcedonia" (Chalcedony), which imitates the appearance of semiprecious stone.
In 1936, the Barovier company merged with Fratelli Toso, another historic family of glassmakers from Murano, leading to the creation of the world-renowned Barovier & Toso.
