Fontana arte

Fontana Arte is an Italian design company, founded in 1881 by Luigi Fontana & C. in Milan.


The company is recognized for its mastery in glasswork and the creation of iconic lighting and furniture pieces.


  1. In 1906, the company participated in the Milan International Exposition.


  1. In 1910, it was acquired by the French company Saint-Gobain.


  1. In 1932, under the artistic direction of Gio Ponti and in collaboration with Luigi Fontana, the Fontana Arte brand was born.


  1. In 1933, Pietro Chiesa took over as artistic director until 1954, after which he was succeeded by Max Ingrand, a prominent French master glassmaker, who was characterized by his use of opaline glass.


  1. In 1998, Fontana Arte received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award for its history and contribution to Italian design.


  1. Fontana Arte continues to produce historical pieces alongside contemporary designs and is a leading brand in high-end Italian design.
