WMF G with ostrich = The first WMF impressed mark, used from 1880 to 1925 for silver-plated Hollow-ware, and until 1930 for export articles. The Geislingen firm of Straub & Schweizer merged with the Esslingen firm of A. Ritter & Co. in 1880, to form the new company “Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik” (WMF) in Geislingen, with Daniel Straub as managing director. The new company´schoice of an ostrich as a trade-mark was determined by the Straub Family ´s heraldic animal, the German word for which is “Strauss”.
The letter “G” stands for “Geislingen”.
